INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS (IPR) CELL

Intellectual property (IP) is the right to own and benefit from one's creative, scientific, and technological creations for a set period. It includes intangible assets like concepts, business strategies, innovations, and literary works. STC focuses on teaching, research, and societal demands, promoting, protecting, managing, and commercializing IP while maintaining academic standards and encouraging commercialization. It provides recognition and opportunities for inventors and STC.

OBJECTIVES

• To support academic freedom and protect the creation of intellectual property at the Institute.
To offer a comprehensive one-stop resource for all issues relating to intellectual property rights generated at the Institute.
• To protect the interests of the creator of intellectual property and to provide a fair distribution of returns from the commercialization of IPR.
• To assist in introducing prudent IP management practices.
• To preserve the academic freedom to publish the research results and to make them aware that if they do decide on public release, the patent system cannot be brought into play thereafter.
• To ensure that once they decide to investigate the potential for IP commercialization, they must disclose it to the College while keeping the information secret until patent applications are processed.
• To verify that the College releases its rights to an IP back to the researcher in the event that it decides not to pursue the opportunity for commercialization.

PURPOSE

• STC has formulated this Policy for the management of intellectual property right to:
• Create an atmosphere that encourages the creation of intellectual property among faculty members and students.
• Facilitate, support, promote, and protect scientific inquiry and research, as well as the independence of academics engaged in R&D Cell.
• Create IPR management policies and procedural rules for making innovations and discoveries created during research conducted in the institute accessible to the public.
• Establish guidelines for what the institution, intellectual property owners, and their sponsors should and should not do in relation to innovations, discoveries, and creative works emanating from the institute.
• Support, assist, and offer incentives to the creators who take the initiative to release their intellectual property to the public in accordance with this policy.
• Enable the College to secure sponsored research funding at all levels of research.
• Establish the College as a premier academic research institution dedicated to the highest standards of scholarship and instruction;
• Make the IPR creator aware of the relevant laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Allow the College to make advantageous use of such developed IP for the maximum possible benefit of the creators, the institute, and society.
